Our 8th place-based working webinar that happened last Friday is now available to watch over on our YouTube channel!
For anyone who missed it, we explored the evolution of our place-based working model and why "place" truly matters to the people who live and work there.
We got insights from both innovator of the year Henry Waters on how we are defining our places with a first look at how it may translate over on the East using data as well as a progress update on our South Staffs model from Mark Willis.
We were also joined by one of our wonderful CCIN and LIN members Debs Nott alongside Delphine Guillemoteau to talk about how place is working from a customer point of view and how customer engagement is a key part of building our models.
Some words from Debs:
"It makes it so much easier to have a better understanding about the kind of investment that we need to put into certain communities as each community is different".
“ It will be good to see how it empowers residents, as Bromford Flagship can stand with us and use its position and influence to improve local areas.”

A more detailed breakdown:
Leveraging Community Assets
The webinar details a shift from focusing on problems to identifying and utilising community strengths. These "assets" include people, local organisations, charities, employers, shops, and parks. This asset-based approach helps collaboratively fill gaps, recognising these assets "are different in different places". This increased visibility and dialogue helps "reduce the stigma of social housing" and builds crucial "trust" within communities.
2. Defining "Places" Scientifically
Understand the analytical process behind defining a "place." Bromford Flagship focuses on "permanent, physical structural things" like geography, historical legacy, and administrative boundaries, avoiding transient factors. Learn how algorithms group properties based on distance, aiming for around 450 properties per place within the same local authority. This data-driven approach is refined by essential resident consultation to capture "real places real communities that people who live and work there identify with".
3. Strategic Vision and Future Impact
The webinar demonstrates how this understanding of places informs strategic decisions, such as where to target new home developments for maximum community impact. It highlights that while Bromford Flagship's presence varies, their commitment to high-quality service remains, with tailored approaches for different areas. This "evolving and dynamic process" prioritises full partnership to avoid duplicating existing community strengths.
